Competence

The core competence of Cerpus is in the crossing between pedagogy and technology. We develop innovative solutions, with special regards to how ICT can support a constructivist learning strategy. We have acquried broad experience and a comprehensive professional network in the area, through product development, collaboration with the educational sector and through research. This enables us to offer good quality solutions for a qualified competence on use of ICT in learning.

As a practical implementation of current pedagogical principles we have chosen to build solutions based on the Topic Maps standard, and this has given us extensive competence on topic maps in practical use. We acknowledge the vast potential of topic maps (in learning and other areas) and we will be glad to discuss topic map solutions in other areas as well.

Solutions

We use Ontopia Knowledge Suite (OKS) from Ontopia AS as our topic maps engine, e.g. for our main product, BrainBank. The OKS lets you build and manipulate topic maps, using Java technology (among other things).

We do also build solutions based on more traditional technology, e.g database driven web applications using programming languages like PHP, Python, Ruby, C# C++ and Java as well as databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server and Oracle. We also have expertise using web site frameworks like Drupal, Ruby on Rails, Zope, .NET and TurboGears.
What technical solutions to choose will depend on the goal of the product and the customer's preferences.
