In this article we present the theoretical foundation of BrainBank Learning (BBL), a web based learning tool for building individual topic maps. BBL is inspired by constructivist learning theories, and supports meaningful learning and good learning strategies. BBL is also a tool that works well for e-portfolio assessment with its possibilities to visualize models of the learners’ knowledge constructions. The conference presentation will show some basic functions of the tool and present some experiences from projects and research on pedagogical use of BBL.
